worship with us

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

II Corinthians 2:14 KJV

Church History

In 1959 during a great revival in Atlantic Beach, Florida, the Spirit of God was poured out on a few witnesses. Being led of God, they erected a small building on a piece of land purchased at 1834 George Street.

When many had abandoned the work, Mother Mary Green, staying faithful, finished the building for the saving of souls with the help of God and named the church Mt. Carmel Apostolic Faith Church.

One night, God showed Mother Green a vision: Service was over, and all the saints had gone home. Mother Green was the last to leave the church and was sure she had turned off all of the lights. When she looked back at the building, there was one light still burning. She went back and turned off all of the switches, but the light refused to go out. When she awoke, she was praising the Lord. The 12th Chapter of Romans was given to her as a guide to the way God would have his people walk.

On an uncertain date in the year of 1975, we had a member by the name of Deloris Basine, who was a missionary. In the early 70’s, the pastor was the late Pastor Benjamin Tyson. We had only a few members but were able to manage as the church started growing daily. As the years passed, Pastor Benjamin Tyson had a decision to make about stepping down and leaving someone in charge of the church in his absence. Elder Tyson, with the consent of Mother Mary Green, seeing how Missionary Basine served and loved God’s people appointed her to be in charge in his absence.

A few months later “Satan” reared his head against the church and the doors were padlocked shut, leaving the saints with no means of entering the sanctuary. Oh no devil! That did not stop God’s people. We had church at the home of Bro. Clarence and Sis. Marvynne Bolden’s home, for several months.

“God loosed the bounds and set his house free!”

After a lot of fasting a prayer and in the absence of Pastor Tyson, Mother Green announced her desires to have a pastor after God’s own heart and who loves the people of God.  By 1977, we had a pastor with a vision, who loudly proclaimed that a church without a vision would perish. This pastor was Elder Deloris Basine. Our church that sat at the back of the road is now our kitchen (being a lot smaller), but with the help of God and the 10 families that were there, we survived.

Mt. Carmel Apostolic Faith Church was renamed, “Triumph Apostolic Faith Church”. We were now under the leadership of a new pastor, getting a fresh start and with a vision. Pastor Basine would often say, “God gave our few members a mind to work”.  We emerged debt free with no mortgage payments. The people of God worked and paid the way.

From 1977 onward, under Pastor Basine’s leadership we grew abundantly. After years of untiring service, Pastor Basine’s health had begun to decline, but she still pressed her way. In the year 2000 Pastor Basine was ordained overseer and appointed, with the approval of the church, Elder JoAnn Smith as pastor. God blessed us to have a dedicated Pastor for 23 years and a dedicated Overseer for 7 years and 4 months.

On May 7, 2008 our beloved overseer went home to be with the Lord. We celebrate that time the Lord allotted for us to have with her, remembering her encouraging words that will never be forgotten. We continue to work with vision, because we are the Church Triumph, and we are alive and well. God Bless!
